Without our volunteers, we couldn’t do it. It’s as simple as that.
Marines and Sailors
MCMO’s three biggest events are the Marine Corps 17.75K, Marine Corps Historic Half Events and Marine Corps Marathon Weekend. What’s the common factor in the name? Marine Corps. We wouldn’t be the Marine Corps Marathon without the Marines. Added bonus? Our brothers and sisters from the United States Navy.
Did you know that over 430 Marines are directly involved in the Marine Corps Historic Half Events? In October for the Marine Corps Marathon Weekend, it is over 2,000 Marines and Sailors.
From the ceremonial aspects and packet pick-up to medical and course operations, they are a part of every detail. If you have been following along in the series, you have learned about the various roles that these men and women fill throughout the event. After all, if you have ever run with us, you know they are there from Prince William Forest Park in March to the Turkey Trot 10K Finish Line in November.

A mission that’s enabled by the dedication of over 2,300 volunteers who support every phase of each event on an annual basis,” expressed Alex Hetherington, MCMO director. “The “must do, will do, can do” reputation of the United States Marine Corps is what inspires both our runners and volunteers, and is the essential difference in quality and degree which defines Marine Corps Marathon Events!”
