Another year gone by and its again time to establish resolutions. What successes were achieved in 2016? What prompted the shortcomings? Were goals met? Chances are the mission for the new year will include being healthy, active and fit and what better motivating force than the United States Marine Corps. Get motivated and dream on about running accomplishments in 2017 by viewing this preview of the upcoming Marine Corps Marathon event schedule.
From Arlington to Fredericksburg, between March and November, in the mud, up the hill, on a trail, in the water, on a bike, for a mile dash or a full marathon, there’s a running experience to meet every motivation.
The running season begins with the Marine Corps 17.75K in March, where every finisher earns guaranteed access to the 42nd MCM. In April, the MCM celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Base with the Quantico 100. Participants will log as many miles as they can in a 100 minute window. The Event Series continues with the mud and obstacle challenge known as Run Amuck in June; the Quantico Tri and Quantico 12K in August; and the Turkey Trot 10K in November.
The 10th anniversary Marine Corps Historic Half happens in Fredericksburg, VA in May and includes the five mile event known as the Semper 5ive. Runners can participate in both, run Hospital Hill twice and earn three medals by signing up for the Devil Dog Double.
MCM Lottery Registration opens on March 22. The 42nd MCM in October, alongside the MCM10K and MCM Kids Run.
Only the most inspired pursue the Distinguished Participant medal that is awarded to runners who complete either the Historic Half, Semper 5ive or Devil Dog Double in May; plus Run Amuck in June; the Tri or 12K in August; and Turkey Trot in November. Log all four events and be recognized, as 180 runners were in 2016 as Distinguished Participants.
When the champagne is popped, the ball drops and Auld Lang Syne is sung, have your plan set for 2017. It’s never to early to Dream On.
