Lynne and Mike Faught of Ontario, Canada will travel to Quantico to mark a very special occasion by participating in their first Marine Corps Marathon event at the Quantico Tri on Saturday, Aug. 26.
“We were looking for a special Tri and had heard great things about Quantico,” says Lynne Faught. “On August 5, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Our participation in the Quantico Tri is part of that celebration. We are looking forward to our first ‘Run With the Marines.’ I’m sure they will give us motivation and inspiration.”
The Faughts will be among 600 Tri athletes coming from 21 states and Washington, D.C. as well as Canada and Australia to participate. Together, they will endure a 750-meter open swim, 12.4-mile bike and 5k run that will occur on the grounds of Quantico’s Officer Candidate School (OCS) and in the waters of the Potomac River.
The Quantico 12K will be held in conjunction with the Tri that Saturday with participants running a majority of the 7.46-mile course within OCS’ wooded trails. The 12K runners represent 22 states and the District of Columbia.
With 192 Quantico 12K runners also registered for the 42nd MCM on Oct. 22, many will be including the 12K as part of their summer marathon-training schedule.
Both events will finish near the OCS parade deck as U.S. Marines present finisher medals to all the Tri and 12K athletes who complete their events.
Packet Pick-up for both the Quantico Tri and Quantico 12K will be held Friday, Aug. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Marine Corps Marathon Quantico headquarters at Fowler Hall.
