MCM Responsible for Wettest May in DC?

The DC area has experienced relentless, unyielding rainfall since late April. At least a trace of rain has fallen in 23 of the last 27 days, accounting for over 5.6 inches of rain, as part of a record-setting streak of 15 consecutive days with measurable rainfall. Why has DC’s weather been so awful this month? There’s a very simple explanation. The rainfall can be attributed to the operational planning of the Marine Corps Marathon in preparation for Run Amuck– the four mile mud and obstacle challenge aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on June 4. A small footnote in the event’s operational plan indicates that formula for creating the event’s three massive mud pits is simply earth plus water. Working smarter, not harder, the MCM sought to maximize resources and minimize waste by ordering the most sopping wet May on record, in order to host the messiest, muddiest Run Amuck ever.
