On Sunday, October 29, 2023, Marine Corps Marathon Weekend runners were faced with unseasonably warmer conditions leading to a rapid increase in medical support. During the event, it was advised by our local Emergency Medical Service partners and the MCMO medical team to implement two gauntlets earlier than planned for the health and safety of all participants. It was also deemed necessary to keep all runners on the shortened course as they would continue to have medical assistance and access to hydration sources in route to an area already set up for a large gathering of individuals.
We do understand the disappointment experienced by the runners impacted. Therefore, the Marine Corps Marathon Organization is happy to announce that the 2023 live MCM or MCM50K will still count toward Runner Club credit and cumulative progress as well as eligibility of the Distinguished Participant program for those who were diverted but still crossed the finish line.
Thank you for your patience as decision makers discussed the situation. Thank you for choosing to #RunWithTheMarines. We hope to see you again.
