What is the date for the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon?
The 33rd MCM will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2008
Do I need a qualifying time to participate?
You do not need a qualifying time for the “People’s Marathon.” You must maintain a 14-minute mile pace to Beat the Bridge (20 mile marker)
Can I walk this marathon?
Marathoner’s will need to be able to maintain a 14-minute per mile pace to Beat the Bridge. All runners must reach the 14th Street Bridge (20 mile marker) by 1:15 pm. At that time, the bridge will re-open to vehicular traffic. If a runner does not reach the 14th Street Bridge on time, they will have to board a straggler’s bus and may not finish the race.
Did the course change this year?
No, it is the same course as last year, only Hains Point comes earlier in the race. Please review the online course map for the route and any updates we might have in the future.
What are the age requirements?
To run the Marine Corps Marathon, you must be at least 14 years of age by October 26, 2008
When will I receive my bib number?
Your bib number will be listed on your e-conformation card that will be available online in September 2008.
How do I get my E-Confirmation card?
There will be a link on the MCM website www.marinemarathon.com in September to print your E-Confirmation card. You will need your confirmation number available in order to access the e-card. Your confirmation number will be included in the confirmation e-mail you received after successfully registering.
What if I can’t print my E-Card or my confirmation number does not work?
All runners received an e-mail with the confirmation number. Please ensure you type this number and your date of birth in order to print the e-card needed for Packet Pick up. Please contact support@active.com or marine.marathon@usmc.mil if you have further problems.
How do I know if my transfer or deferment is completed? Can I transfer or defer my entry?
The deadline and online forms for deferments and transfers will be posted on the MCM website www.marinemarathon.com. All marathoners that transfer should see their changed information on the website confirmation page and will receive an e-mail from Active.com with their confirmation number to be used to print their e-card. If you experience difficulties, please contact support@active.com or marine.marathon@usmc.mil. All Marathoners that defer will receive a confirmation e-mail stating that you have deferred your entry. A letter with a guaranteed entry application for next year’s race will be sent to you. There is a $25.00 processing fee for both transfers and deferments. The entry fee for deferments rolls over to the next year.
What is considered the official time and how is the race timed?
Runners will be timed using a ChampionChip. Official times will come from the ChampionChip. Runner’s chip times will be reflected on the results website and on their downloadable finisher certificates. These are accepted by Boston Marathon as proof of time.
Can I keep the ChampionChip that comes in my race packet?
The Marine Corps Marathon will provide every runner with a one-time single-use souvenir chip. This souvenir chip is the runner’s to keep. The souvenir chip will be in the runner’s packet at Packet Pick up. Runners can still purchase their own personal Multi-use chip at www.championchip.com
I just registered but did not receive my confirmation e-mail. What should I do?
Please check your spam folder. If it is not there, please contact support@active.com to resend it.
I hit the submit button but the screen did not go anywhere, am I registered or do I have to start all over again?
Once you submit your registration it could take up to 3 minutes for the registration to process. DO NOT hit the submit button more than once.
I was timed-out before I was able to submit my registration. What should I do?
If you are timed out during the registration process, please go to www.marinemarathon.com to begin a new registration.
My credit card did not go though. I used another one but it didn’t work. What should I do?
If you received a declined message when you submit payment, confirm the following information is correct and try submitting your registration again:
If you continue to receive the declined message, try a different card or contact your bank.
I could not get to the application. What should I do?
Please make sure you download JavaScript. There is a link on the splash page (MCM website).
Can I receive a refund or exchange one of the Brooks items I purchased during registration?
Please visit www.brooksrunning.com for their refund policy.
I put in my birth date or my address wrong. How can I correct it?
Please send an e-mail to marine.marathon@usmc.mil requesting the change.
Can I register someone else using my credit card?
Yes, enter your credit card and billing information in the payment area.
How will the charges be reflected on my credit card statement?
The charge for the Marine Corps Marathon will be displayed on your credit card statement as “Active.com registration-marinemarathon”.
Is it necessary to purchase a ChampionChip during registration in order to participate?
No, every participant will receive a single-use Souvenir Chip for this race.
I registered and where is the hotel information?
Please click on the hotel banner on the splash page (website) or on the banner on your confirmation e-mail and book your hotel. There are many partner hotels listed. The MCM office does not book hotel registrations.
Do you mail out race packets?
No, participants must come to the Health & Fitness Expo at the DC Armory on Thursday October 23, 2008 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday October 24, 2008 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm and Saturday October 25, 2008 from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm and pick up their packets.
